"REVIVING BOSNIA" DOCUMENTARY

Background

In the 1990s, the wars in the Balkans between the Christian Serbians and the Muslim Bosnians were tireless. In December of 1995, President Clinton deployed thousands of U.S. soldiers there for Peace Stabilization or the SFOR mission. Now, over ten years later, the U.S. Armed Forces are still there. The Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department (or MWR) has been sending performers there to entertain them year after year. In 2002, they sent our show. (A high energy singing and dancing performance.) My intention of documenting my experience there is to make Americans aware of our troops’ presence in the Balkans. I want the world to know that they ARE there...and they are the boys and girls next door. They are not there to fight a war. They are there to protect the innocent victims and they are there to keep the peace.

We traveled to over ten Army and NATO bases and several outposts. We were transported in Blackhawks, tanks, humvees, C-130s and a military-escorted tour bus. We performed over twelve shows and met with thousands of US soldiers and local Bosnian and Kosovars. We spent Thanksgiving and New Years in Bosnia and Kosovo. We were allowed to shop and mingle in local towns and got to experience first hand the devastation the war caused. This experience was life altering for six American dancers and singers who initially did not know what to expect. We have a new respect for the US military overseas and we dedicate this film to them.
